Steel production hits record

Raw steel production in Turkey hit a record high of 34.1 million tons in 2011, marking a 17 percent rise over the previous year from 29.1 million tons.Production was also up on a monthly basis in December to 3.1 million tons, with an increase of 11.5 percent over the same month a year earlier, a national association of Turkish steel producers said.
In 2011, production in Turkish steel doubled average production figures in the world, the association said.
