Halkbank will delay the repayment of low-rated loan debts for businesses in terror-hit southeastern provinces for one year, according to a cabinet decision that was released in the Official Gazette on May 5.

Companies whose operations have been negatively affected by terror attacks in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakır, Mardin, Şırnak and Hakkari will be able to benefit from the decision, Anadolu Agency said.

Affected businesses need to submit written applications to banks that demonstrate their losses due to terror attacks.

After their debts are postponed for one year, the companies will also have the chance to acquire new loans at lower rates, according to the decision.

Meanwhile, tradespeople lost approximately 50 million Turkish Liras in Diyarbakır’s Sur district alone, a study conducted by the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry and presented to Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Development Minister Cevdet Yılmaz revealed in April.

The businesses lost 50 million liras because they were forced to remain closed during curfews in the district, the report said according to Doğan News Agency, noting that even after reopening, losses are expected to continue for some time.
