Soldier opens fire on post, kills three army members in southeastern Turkey

A Turkish soldier opened fire on an army post in Turkey’s Siirt province, killing three others before unsuccessfully attempting to commit suicide, according to Doğan news agency.

The unidentified soldier entered the Pervari village post around 3:30 p.m. and opened fire on army officials there. Three soldiers were killed before he turned the gun on himself in a failed suicide attempt. He was critically wounded when forces took him to the military hospital in Siirt.

The soldier used a G-3 automatic rifle, Doğan news agency has reported.

Siirt Governor Ahmet Aydın confirmed the number of victims, but did not reveal their identites.
