Six Turkish village guards killed in PKK attack in Turkey’s Siirt

A total of six Turkish village guards were killed on March 30 in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack in the southeastern province of Siirt. Three village guards and four soldiers were wounded in the attack.

Security officials said the attack occurred in the area of a military base in Siirt’s Eruh district.

The village guards and soldiers were providing security for road maintenance work in the village of Ormandi, according to state-run Anadolu Agency.

More than 30 suspects arrested in operations

Meanwhile, a total of 39 suspects were arrested in six Turkish provinces in anti-terror operations, Anadolu Agency reported on March 30.

The operation was based in the southern province of Adana and was also carried out in the provinces of Istanbul, Mersin, Mardin, Osmaniye and Isparta, according to a security source.

Five women were reportedly among the detainees in the operation, which was supported by police helicopters. 

The operation was conducted against targets suspected of links to the PKK and the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK).

Separately, security forces killed three PKK militants in the Hazro district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

The Diyarbakir Governor’s Office said in a statement that the killed militants were responsible for the March 29 attack that injured six soldiers.

The three militants were killed during the operation launched after the attack on the soldiers.

PKK militants had reportedly targeted a military vehicle near the village of Koçbaba, Hazro with long-barreled weapons and rocket launchers.
