Six police officers were killed and four others were severely wounded when an explosive-laden vehicle was detonated as a police vehicle was passing in the eastern province of Bingöl late on Aug. 1.The explosion occurred as a shuttle bus carrying riot police teams was passing by, Bingöl Gov. Yavuz Selim Köşger has said. The attack is suspected of being carried out by outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants.
Köşger said the police shuttle bus was thrown through the air for 15 meters by the force of the explosion.
While two wounded soldiers were taken to Elazığ Fırat University Hospital by helicopter for treatment, two other wounded officers, one reportedly in serious condition, was taken to Bingöl Public Hospital.
Köşger also said “close contact” with the militants had occurred as a result of operations that were launched after the attack.
