ANKARA – Anadolu Agency
Turkish jets neutralized six militants as part of an anti-terror operation in northern Iraq, the military said on Dec. 23.
In a Twitter post, the Turkish General Staff said the airstrikes carried out in Qandil and Hakurk regions on Saturday neutralized militants plotting attacks on Turkish bases.
Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply that the militants in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.
Turkish jets destroyed shelters and depots of PKK militants during the operation.
On a related note, the military also said on Dec. 22 its jets neutralized two militants as part of an anti-terror operation in northern Iraq.
The military said the airstrikes carried out in Metina region on Dec. 22 neutralized two militants plotting attacks on Turkish bases. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union.
