Singaporean mission eyes local market

Singaporean businessmen’s interest in Turkey is increasing, a top executive of a Singaporean business association said at the Turkey-Singapore Business Forum yesterday.

This is the third business delegation coming to Turkey, said Tony Chew, the head of the Singapore Business Federation, which organized the event with the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK).
Turkey’s location is very good for access to markets in Europe and it also has connections in Africa, he said, adding that business activities between the West and the East could be realized in the country.
Singapore has a large network both in China and India, two Asian giant markets. Both countries could make it convenient to enter into each other’s market, Chew said.

Singaporean embassy

Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said his country would open an embassy in the Turkish capital Ankara by the end of 2012.

Speaking at the business forum, Shanmugaratnam said Turkey and Singapore were serving as doors in their own regions.

Meanwhile, Turkey-Singapore Business Council Chairman Mehmet Pınar Aran said the relations between the two countries had developed significantly.

“However, we are willing to further develop the relations between the companies of the two countries and make successful joint investments,” he said.
