Seven PKK militants killed in southeastern Turkey

Seven militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have been killed in military operations in the southeastern town of Derik, a district in the southeastern province of Mardin, while one soldier was killed and another was injured.

The Mardin Governor’s Office said in a written statement that seven PKK militants were killed in military operations launched at 6 p.m. on Nov. 30. 

The funeral ceremony of Sezer Aydemir, 25, the soldier killed by the PKK in Derik, was held on Dec. 1 in his hometown in the eastern province of Elazığ.

Meanwhile, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputies Çağlar Demirel and Mahmut Toğrul were taken to hospital following exposure to intense tear gas fired by security forces, after they attempted to enter Derik, which has been under a military curfew for over a week.

Clashes in Nusaybin, another curfew-hit district in the southeastern province of Mardin, were also reported to be ongoing, with an indeterminate curfew in place in four Nusaybin neighborhoods. The curfew was imposed at 2 p.m. on Nov. 27.
