School children to get tablets in February
ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
A smartboard is seen at the background in the Western province of Manisa. The governmet plans to place such boards to all classrooms across Turkey.
Computer tablets and smartboards will be distributed in February to pilot schools in 17 Turkish provinces as part of a government project to bring the Internet to students around the country, said Education Minister Ömer Dinçer.“Each school will be equipped with fiber cable, each tablet will have Internet access and each classroom will have a minimum speed of 10 megabytes,” Dinçer said at a press conference.
Meanwhile, Chinese technology firm Huawei’s Turkey general manager, Wu Congcheng, said Huawei might be interested in providing the IT infrastructure for the Fatih Project.
“We’ve been following the Fatih Project for roughly one and half years,” said Wu, noting that his company have been part of similar projects in China and Thailand earlier.
“So why not Turkey?” he asked during a recent interview to Turkey’s Anatolia news agency.
