Sarajevo Film Festival to be held in August

The Sarajevo Film Festival, launched by a group of artists in 1995 in order to move beyond the traces of the war and bring the city together with arts and culture again, will begin in August.At a press conference, the festival organizer Mirsad Purivatra said that the event, regarded as one of the best film festivals in Europe, would be held for the 19th time this year, and would kick off on Aug. 16 at the Public Theater with a film by Oscar-winning Bosnian director Danis Tanovic, ”An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker.” The film won two Silver Bear awards at the 63rd Berlin Film Festival.
He said that the festival would also offer Spanish director Pablo Berger’s six-award winning film “Snow White,” U.S. director David Gordon’s “Prince Avalanche,” which won the Silver Bear at the 63rd Berlin Film Festival as well many other famous productions.
The Sarajevo Film Festival has so far hosted many celebrities from turkey and the world such as Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Saadet Işıl Aksoy, Semih Kaplanoğlu, Engin Günaydın, Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Wim Wanders. The festival will continue until Aug. 24.
