Russian ballet draws big interest in Ankara

The ballet “Zorba the Greek” was staged by 53-year-old Russian dancer Irek Mukhamedov on May 12 at Ankara’s ATO Congresium. The two-act performance earned a standing ovation from the audience.In the ballet, which was adapted from Nikos Kazancakis’ famous novel and staged with the unique music of Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, the orchestra was conducted by Bujor Hoinic.
The front seats in the 3,000-person capacity venue were removed in order to create the orchestra pit. Mukhamedov was accompanied by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet orchestra and choir.
