Ruling AKP set to hold rally in support of Palestine

ISTANBUL

The ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) Istanbul presidency has announced plans to organize a large rally in solidarity with Palestine, scheduled for Oct. 28 at Atatürk Airport.

The rally aims to draw attention to what the organizers have described as "Israeli brutality" in the region.

President and AKP leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is set to attend the rally, a statement issued by the provincial administration confirmed.

The rally will also witness the participation of leaders from the ruling Nation Alliance, including Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli, Great Union Party (BBP) leader Mustafa Destici, New Welfare Party (YRP) leader Fatih Erbakan, Free Cause Party (HÜDA PAR) leader Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu and Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader Önder Aksakal.

This event marks the first gathering of the People's Alliance since the elections held in May.

According to the announcement from the Istanbul administration, the rally is expected to attract attendees from various sectors, including media, sports, art, the business world and members of the Palestinian diaspora.

During Israel's recent bombardment of Gaza, Türkiye urged mediation and called for a ceasefire. Erdoğan held a phone conversation with Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh.
