Revise Syria policy, CHP deputy says

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deputy Chair Sezgin Tanrıkulu wants the government to revise its Syria policies, citing the “fear and pain” both locals and refugees suffered from after the twin bomb attacks in Reyhanlı in the southern province of Hatay.

“We are inviting the Justice and Development party [AKP] to revise its current policies - in order to prevent the war getting more severe - and search for paths to a solution that would not shed blood in Syria. Otherwise, the AKP will be the one responsible for every possible explosion and loss of life and property that will break out in Turkey,” Tanrıkulu said: “The main function of politics is to overcome domestic and foreign problems with peaceful methods, and without allowing wars and deaths. However, the incidents on the Syria border in southern Turkey have created a serious reaction to the AKP, which is emerging with its pro-war policies.”

Tanrıkulu criticized the broadcast ban implemented after the incidents. “The findings of a number of journalists and human rights organizations before the explosion in Reyhanlı showed that serious attacks were being committed against refugees. It is also known that some refugees were forced to return to Syria due to such racist assaults,” Tanrıkulu said.
