Religion meet in Istanbul

An international conference titled “The Arab Awakening and Peace in the Middle East: Muslim and Christian Perspectives” is to be held in Istanbul on Sept. 7-8, in cooperation with the Centre for Islamic Research (ISAM) and the Institute of Middle East Studies at Marmara University.Nearly 200 religious and opinion leaders from across the Arab countries, the Middle East and Turkey will come together to discuss Muslim-Christian relations and a common vision for the future, after the events of the “Arab awakening.” The opening speeches will be made by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez, Chief Mufti of Egypt Sheikh Ali Gomaa, Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem Theofilos III, and former Lebanese President Amine Cemayel.
