Privatization deadline extended for bridge

Bids for the sale of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge were extended to May 17.

Turkey’s Privatization Board has extended the bidding deadline from Feb. 16 to May 17 for the privatization tender of Istanbul’s Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and the highways surrounding Istanbul, Edirne and Ankara.

The winner of the tender will have the “right of management” to the bridge and highways for a 25-year period. The preliminary qualification deadline for the bid has also been extended from Jan. 19 to April 5. 

Meanwhile, nine local and nine foreign firms have expressed interest in the tender for the construction of Istanbul’s third bridge as well as the Northern Marmara Highway tender. The tender is set to take place Jan. 10. Four Japanese, two Russian, one Spanish, one Austrian, and one Italian firm have purchased the tender documents for the project, according to daily Milliyet. 

The third bridge, which will connect the provinces of Adapazarı and Tekirdağ via the Northern Marmara Highway, will span 414 km. k HDN
