Presidential emblem removed from old Çankaya Palace

The presidential emblem at the entrance of the old Çankaya Palace in Ankara has been removed, as the transfer of all service units to the new presidential palace has now been completed.

After President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan began residing at the new presidential palace, colloquially known as “Ak Saray” (White Place), located in Ankara’s Beştepe neighborhood, all service units were also moved from the downtown Çankaya Palace.

In addition to the emblem at the main entrance gate, other emblems at different locations within the Çankaya premises are also being removed, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Jan. 29.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu is soon set to move into the Çankaya Palace, which will henceforth serve as the premises of the Prime Ministry.

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deputy Parliamentary Group Chair Akif Hamzaçebi said on Jan. 29 that his party would continue to regard the Çankaya Palace as Turkey’s official presidential palace, regardless of whether the emblem is removed.
