Eleven police officers who were filmed beating a man have
been released after being questioned by prosecutor, CNNTürk reported today.
The Istanbul Public Prosecutors' Office launched an investigation after Ahmet Koca, who was severely beaten by police on June 18, filed a complaint. However, the policemen, who reportedly denied the accusations, have been released by prosecutors.
Meanwhile, prosecutors opened a lawsuit against Koca demanding that he serve between 1.5 and five years in prison for "resisting a police officer" and "insulting a public official” following complaints by seven police officers.
The investigation into the incident is continuing, the reports said.
Amateur footage emerged June 20, showing at least seven policemen beating and kicking Koca following an argument over right of way on a street.
