Police have called on locals living in the Karkamış district of the border province Kilis to evacuate the area for their life security, following a series of mortar shells fired from Syrian territory, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Minibuses were dispatched to the district governor’s office to pick up locals who do not own a vehicle.

The police warning came after another mortar shell fired from Syria hit the garden of the Karkamış Municipality building.

Civil servants in the district will be granted administrative leave of two days due to the attacks.

Turkish artillery units across the border continued to retaliate to the fire by shelling Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) positions in Jarablus.
