Some 15 police officers were wounded when land mines planted by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) exploded today in the eastern province of Van, daily Hürriyet has reported.

The explosives were remotely detonated by militants when police teams arrived at a polygon for target practice, reports said. They were reportedly planted in a headwall, in an area used by vehicles for parking near the target practice site.

Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene and the wounded police officers were taken to nearby hospitals.

Special operation forces have since launched an operation.
