Police intel answers to deputies

The Police Intelligence Bureau has revealed that it conducted a large-scale operation after private footage of former Republican Peoples’ Party (CHP) chair Deniz Baykal and nine members of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) were released.The Bureau announced that it launched 11 operations on private investigation bureaus and seized some equipment.
Last week, the Parliamentary Commission on phone-hacking asked deputy chair of the Police Intelligence Bureau, Gürsel Aktepe, several questions.
When asked, “Who organized this camera trap against Deniz Baykal?” Aktepe answered, “It is known that public prosecutors conducted an investigation according to the data learned from the press.”
Aktepe added, “Since July 9, 2010, 11 operations were launched against those mostly working as private investigators. Some 22 guns, 1,212 cartridges, 127 videotapes and many devices were seized. Some 132 people were detained and 21 arrested,” Aktepe said.
