PM gives message on ending terror

ANKARA

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hopes the government will be able to succeed in bringing an end to terrorism in Turkey through the same peaceful manner it has used to facilitate a major water transportation project, the prime minister said at the project’s opening ceremony.

“I hope that Turkish government can make the same success in ending terror in Turkey in a peaceful manner through the same peaceful manner it has used to facilitate a major water transportation project,” Erdoğan said yesterday.

Meanwhile, state dignitaries, including President Abdullah Gül, attended a funeral ceremony Oct. 21 for two policemen killed in Hakkari during Oct. 19 clashes with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Police Chief Yalçın Dizdaroğlu, 44, who was a member of the Special Operation Department, and police chief Okan Koç, 28, were laid to rest following a ceremony held at the Special Operation Department Presidency.

In addition to Gül, Parliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek, main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli, Energy Minister Taner Yıldız, Health Minister Recep Akdağ, Interior Minister İdris Naim Şahin and senior military commanders, including Deputy Chief of the General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, attended the funeral.

Meanwhile, PKK members bombed a pipeline in the eastern province of Ağrı’s Doğubayazıt district Oct. 20. No casualties were reported in the incident.
