Planned Egypt meeting between Turkish president, prime minister postponed

A meeting on the crisis in Egypt scheduled to take place today between President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was postponed at the last minute.

Gül and Erdoğan, accompanied by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, were to discuss the developments in Egypt and Turkey’s road map for the near future in the meeting scheduled for 2 p.m., but sources from the President’s Office said at around 2:15 p.m. that the meeting had been rescheduled for Aug. 22 and would take place in Ankara.

Erdoğan met National Intelligence Agency (MİT) chief Hakan Fidan earlier in the day at his home on Istanbul’s Anatolian side, Doğan news agency reported. The length and the topic of the meeting were not revealed, while reporters only learned about the meeting when Fidan’s convoy left Erdoğan’s house, the agency added.
