PKK militants killed, soldiers wounded in Turkey's southeast

Turkish security forces have killed 15 suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) during operations in the eastern province of Hakkari, daily Hürriyet reported today.

Military operations reportedly began in the province’s Şemdinli district after PKK militants blocked the road between the Rüzgarlı and Bağlar villages and stopped cars twice in the last two days, collecting passengers’ ID cards and making propaganda on behalf of their organization.

Unmanned aerial vehicles spotted the locations of the militants before helicopters fired on them.

Fifteen militants were killed and three soldiers were wounded during the operations, which lasted two hours, reports said.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
