PKK militants kidnap, kill villager in Turkey’s southeast

Outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants kidnapped and killed a villager early on July 23 in the southeastern province of Hakkari, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Sami Çiftçi was kidnapped from his home in the Çatalca village in Hakkari’s Şemdinli district, according to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.      

PKK militants then took the man to a place far away from his home in the Güvenli area and shot him dead, the sources said.      

An investigation has been launched into the incident.      

Meanwhile, another operation against the PKK in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır has been completed early on July 23, according to military sources.      

Within the scope of the operation, 1.2 million tons of ammonium nitrate were seized and a shelter used by the PKK was destroyed.      

Five hand grenades, 205 kilograms of marijuana and around 23,000 roots of cannabis have been seized.
