PKK attack on worksite injures worker in Turkey’s Hakkari

Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants injured one worker in the southeastern province of Hakkari’s Çukurca district, near the Iraqi border, early on Aug. 25, in an attack with three rocket launchers on a road construction site in the area.The incident occurred in Üzümlü village, approximately 20 kilometers away from the Çukurca district center.
After the PKK militants attacked the construction site, the soldiers who were at the area for security purposes immediately made a counterattack, but one worker was wounded in the meantime from a shrapnel piece.
The injured worker was dispatched to Hakkari State Hospital, while security forces have launched an extensive operation in the area.
The Hakkari Governor’s Office released a statement regarding the incident on the same day, saying the PKK militants had fired off the rocket launchers from Iraq.
“The area in which the attack occurred has been covered with massive fire [by security forces] and from the radio talks, it has been understood that one separatist terror organization [PKK] member was neutralized. The investigation regarding the incident continues,” it said.
Meanwhile, two PKK militants were killed in the eastern Van province on Aug. 24, according to a statement from the governor’s office.
The statement said gendarmerie and police forces identified a group of PKK militants who arrived in the Gürpınar dis-trict in Van.
The gendarmerie conducted an air-supported operation targeting the group, which killed two militants, said the statement.
