Pamuk receives award from Chinese platform

Turkish author Orhan Pamuk is the most influential international writer in China.

Nobel Laureate Orhan Pamuk received the “the most influential international writer” award from one of China’s most prestigious literature platforms as part of the 2012 South China International Literature Week.

Pamuk will receive the award in conjunction with the Chinese release of his newest book “The Naive and the Sentimental Novelist.” The novel gathers a series of lectures Pamuk gave at Harvard University as part of a Charles Eliot Norton Lecture series where he expounded on his experience as a novelist.

The Norton Lectures were very prestigious speeches, Pamuk said, adding that in the past the lecture series saw contributions from Umberto Eco, Italo Calvino, Igor Stravinsky, Jorge Luis Borges, Frank Stella and Frank Kermode. Pamuk is one of the most famous writers in China and his book “Museum of Innocence” is among foreign novels which appealed to Chinese buyers the most. “My Name Is Red,” was also eagerly bought up by Chinese readers with approximately half a million copies sold in the country.
