Over 95 pct of enterprises in Turkey use Internet

The Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) announced Sept. 12 that 95.3 percent of enterprises in Turkey with at least 10 persons employed used the Internet in 2018.
TÜİK stated that 93.7 percent of enterprises used broadband connection to access the Internet -- 9.4 percent of enterprises used with at least 100 Mbit/s download speed.
According to the institute’s use of information and communication technology (ICT) by enterprises survey, proportion of the enterprises using computer is 97 percent this year.
TÜİK noted that 66.1 percent of enterprises had website while the highest website ownership ratio was 87.8 percent in enterprises with 250 or more employees in 2018.
“9.8 percent of enterprises received orders for products or services via web sites, ‘apps’ or Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) in 2017,” it said.
“This percentage was 21.8 percent in enterprises with 250 or more employees, while 12.1 percent in enterprises with 50-249 employees, 9 percent in enterprises with 10-49 persons employed,” the institute added.
“According to the survey results for the year 2018, 11.6 percent of enterprises employed ICT specialist whose main job is to develop, operate or maintain ICT systems or applications,” it said, noting that this ratio was 10.8 percent last year.
TÜİK also said that 1 out of 3 enterprises which recruited or try to recruit ICT specialists, reported hard to fill vacancies -lack or too low number of applicants, required skills not available or not entirely suitable, lack of work experience in the field, high salary request.
