Orthopedic shoes at exhibition
Bahadır Yıldız’s solo exhibition at Gallery Apel is centered on sculptures constructed around orthopedic shoes made for different types of feet. At first glance, the objects merely look like shoes, but in the artist’s world, they have actually undergone transformation in terms of form and concept. This transformation manifests itself thanks to scrap, sawdust, wooden objects and pieces of wood which come together to form Yıldız’s sculptures. The sculptures, however, do not merely convey how shoes are reflected in the artist’s world; by adding the element of time through the marks on the wood, these structures based on flawed feet also make reference to the “inner weaving” of the human being.
