Do not neglect the Art Fair
After you visit TÜYAP Book Fair in Istanbul, you must also see Artist 2017 / 27th Istanbul Art Fair, being held at the same location at the TÜYAP Congress Center in Büyükçekmece until Nov. 12.
The theme of this year’s fair is “Utopia.”
At the fair, besides the master artists’ work in the galleries, you can also see the works of young generation artists. The works of almost a thousand artists will be exhibited on a fair ground that is bigger than 12,000-square-meters.
In these fairs, bringing together young artists and masters, visitors have the chance to observe the creative adventure of the visual arts in different generations.
We can see the works of many artists across different galleries. But when they are presented collectively, as at the fair, this is very useful for those who do not visit exhibitions.
I always place emphasis on the importance of awards. Awarding those who produce in their studios must be seen as an efficient step to further introducing them to the wider public.
Who was awarded at this year’s Istanbul Art Fair? Here is the list.
Artist Honorary Award: Nur Koçak
Art Historian/Critic Honorary Award: Ali Artun
Collection Honorary Award: Yunus Büyükkuşoğlu
Art-Lover Institution Award: FARPLAS
Visitors will be able to view the artworks of Nur Koçak and a selection from Büyükkuşoğlu’s collection at the fair.
I am among those people who like to observe the interaction between different art fields. Tides between music and the plastic arts should attract particular attention.
Under the theme of “Utopia,” this year’s fair includes a selection from the ongoing Thessaloniki Biennial at the Thessaloniki Contemporary Art Museum in Greece.
One of the specialties of the fair is that it supports young artists.
The ARTIST gallery, which has opened its doors to young artists, initiatives and students from universities’ fine arts faculties for 13 years, this year also gives independent young artists an opportunity in Hall No: 8 of the fair.
It thus gives young artists and fine arts students a chance to get into touch with galleries, take part in projects, and produce joint works.
This year will feature institutions include the Mimar Sinan University Fine Arts Faculty, Istanbul Kültür University and the nternational Knidos Culture and Art Academy, along with over 30 other initiatives and groups.
The Baksı Museum, established in the Bayraktar village of the northeastern province of Bayburt by its founder, Professor Hüsamettin Koçan, brings the Student Art Festival to this year’s fair. The museum has organized this festival since 2013.
The Istanbul Art Fair will certainly contribute to all visitors’ visual tastes and I strongly recommend it.
