One sailor dead, seven missing as Russian ship sinks off Istanbul

One sailor has been confirmed dead, four others have been rescued while seven others remain missing after a ship carrying coal sank earlier today due to bad weather in the Black Sea near Istanbul’s Şile district, according to reports.
Anatolia News Agency identified the seven missing crew members as Captain Vasyl Vorotyntsev, third captain Vadim Kyrylov, chief engineer and machinist Murat Kulbarakov, second machinist Igor Dushakov, electrician Igor Karjov, oiler Oleksandr Malockin and cook Oleksandr Kolotun.
The Volga-Balt 199, which is registered in St. Kitts and Nevis, was carrying a crew of 11 Ukrainians and one Russian.
Meanwhile, a Russian-flagged vessel with 14 crew members on board has begun drifting just off the coast of Kilyos on Istanbul’s European side following a problem in the engine room.
