Turkish midfielder Nuri Şahin is expected to sign a one-year loan deal with Arsenal today.

English and German media reported yesterday that Şahin passed a medical at the London club, with the deal expected to be finalized in the next 24 hours.

The Turkish player is seen as surplus to requirements at Real Madrid this season, but Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho made it clear that he has Şahin in his future plans. Mourinho said that he does not care where he plays next season, “as long as he plays.”

Şahin spent an injury-plagued season in his first year at Real Madrid after being signed from Borussia Dortmund. He was voted the player of the year in a poll conducted in Germany in 2011.
The player, who was born in Germany, has been a constant target for Turkish clubs as well.
