Nuclear plant report submitted to ministry

The Environmental Impact Analysis Report for the nuclear plant in Akkuyu has been presented to the Turkish Ministry of the Environment to be assessed.

The Russian state atomic energy corporation, Rosatom, was selected to build and operate the Akkuyu nuclear plant that will be made of four reactors and will have a total installed power of 4,800 megawatts (MW).

The environmental impact report is one of the most critical steps to begin the construction of Turkey’s first nuclear plant.

The report consisted of 3,000 pages and 12 sections, and included the results of scientific observations and detailed researches regarding the every aspect of the planned power plant.

An Inspection and Survey Committee founded by public institutions, universities and other representatives will evaluate the report and present its opinions to the ministry, for it to transfer the final decision to the undertaker company, Akkuyu NGS.

The authorities expect the ministry’s decision over the report to be finalized within three months.

A sector source previously told Reuters that Rosatom was seeking partners and the tenders for such cooperation could commence by September following the completion of the environmental assessment report. Rosatom has pre-interviews with 10 companies including Tekfen Construction and Spanish Tecnicas Reunidas.
