Non-taxed fuel sale fined 1 billion liras

The Finance Ministry has issued fines worth 1 billion Turkish Liras for tax evasion through putting non-taxed sea fuels in the market to sell to other vehicles.Recently, the government lifted the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) collected from sea fuels in order to encourage the maritime sector, but a large proportion of that non-taxed fuel was sold to other vehicle users who should pay the ÖTV.
The Tax Inspection Board discovered many counterfeit documents fraudulently claiming that fuel had been delivered to sea vehicles.
Şimşek said the providers illegally sold the fuel in various markets with these counterfeit documents, which resulted in substantial tax losses to the state.
