No halt in EU visas for Turkish citizens: Foreign Ministry source

ANKARA

A source at the Foreign Ministry has denied claims on social media that a number of European countries are set to stop issuing visas to Turkish citizens, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Oct. 20.

Reports had spread in Turkey claiming that Hungary, Portugal, Norway, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands and France would stop issuing visas to Turkish citizens, amid the ongoing visa row between Turkey and the U.S.

However, the ministry source, speaking on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said the Foreign Ministry had contacted the EU delegation in Turkey, as well as the embassies of Hungary, Portugal, Norway, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands and France on the issue.

The respective authorities denied any halt to issuing of visas to Turkish citizens, saying procedures would continue as usual, the source added.
