Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said Turkey would not have any diplomatic relations with Greek Cyprus during the country’s EU term presidency, even if they allowed the opening of “20 chapters” in Turkey’s EU accession talks. Speaking to daily Radikal’s Ankara bureau chief Deniz Zeyrek on the plane as he was flying to Netherlands on March 6, Davutoğlu said the opening of chapters should not be a favor done by one country for another, and Greek Cyprus’ efforts to portray this as a favor were “unacceptable.” He blamed Greek Cyprus first, followed by the EU, for not having opened the chapters by now.
