Nine killed in road crash

The crash near the town of Nizip, in the southeastern province of Gaziantep, left another 16 people injured, it said.

No other details were immediately available.

Deadly road accidents are a daily occurrence in Turkey, where respect for traffic rules is minimal. About 4,200 people were killed and nearly 185,000 injured in more than 920,000 traffic accidents across the country last year, according to police figures.

The number of fatal road accidents rise sharply during holiday periods when a lot of people travel and a higher number of inexperienced drivers take to the highways.
