New Year’s lottery tickets selling fast

The people of Turkey are rushing to the National Lottery’s New Year draw, with 63 percent of all the tickets issued for the draw sold within the first two weeks of their market launch, according to information provided by the National Lottery Administration. The grand prize of the lottery is 45 million Turkish Liras, while the total prize money of the tickets comes to 400 million liras. In the event that all tickets are sold, slightly over 242 million liras will be distributed to the ticket holders in prizes. Apart from the grand prize, the big prizes of the draw are one 5 million lira prize, one 2 million lira prize, and one 1 million lira prize.The real grand prize benefits state offices. If all the tickets are sold, the Turkish Treasury will benefit from the sales with 102.4 million liras in revenue, 60.5 million liras of which will come from value added taxes (VAT). The Treasury will receive an additional 33.9 million liras gathered from the Lottery Tax applied on the gross sales amount after VAT is excluded.
Other state offices like the Defense Industry Support Fund, the Promotion Fund, the Social Services and Child Protection Institute, and the Olympics Organizing Board will benefit from the sales by receiving their public share of the revenue. The total amount distributed among these offices will be 7.8 million liras.
In the end, 102.4 million liras out of the 400 million liras of tickets for sale will be transferred to state offices.
