New project launched for women passengers in Turkey's Eskişehir

The project, launched upon demands by women passengers, will be effective in the Vadişehir, Sultandere and Zincirlikuyu areas of the city, which are far from downtown. Buses will follow their normal routes but will stop at locations outside normally designated areas subject to demand.

“The sole reason for this [project] was safety,” Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor Yımaz Büyükerşen said. 

“We have started a procedure of allowing women to get off at points that are closest to their homes,” said Büyükerşen.

“We go home at late hours and feel anxious, but with this, we will get off wherever we want to, just like a dolmuş [smaller vehicles used in Turkey for public transportation]. We will feel safer. We thank those who brought this project to life,” said bus passenger Hande Başak Mutlu.
