Twenty new domestic airline routes have been introduced by carrier companies as a result of the government’s promotion providing a two-year monopoly on flights to the companies that fly the encouraged routes at least three times a week.

The Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications launched the promotion to the carrier companies in order to activate 70 domestic lines where there were no flights. According to the arrangement, if the carrier company introduces a minimum of three flights a week in one of the routes it will have right a right to a monopoly over the course of two years.

Borajet, Onur Air, SunExpress, Pegasus and Atlasjet are the local companies that are set to benefit from the incentive, and will begin conducting 66 flights per week in 20 new routes from the 2013 summer schedule.

The Transport Ministry’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation declared that 70 domestic lines from 29 cities were included in the incentive on Dec. 25, 2012. It also added that the carrier companies to benefit from this would have priority in international flights too.
