NATO base to be turned into a rehabilitation center in southern Turkey

A NATO base in southern province of Adana, which was closed 10 years ago after 45 years of service, will be transformed into a five-star social facility for the elderly and the disabled, daily Milliyet reported today. 

The right to use the facility, which was built in 1957 as the biggest NATO radar base, was reportedly handed over to the Adana Metropolitan Municipality after it was closed. 

The social center will be built on a 75-decare area and cost 750,000 Turkish liras when it is completed, reports said. The facility will include six buildings, 44 bedrooms, a sport center, a hydrotherapy pool, a dining hall, a conference room and more.

It will open in 12 months and all citizens will able to use it free of charge.
