National Security Council to evaluate extension of state of emergency, Turkish PM says

Turkey’s National Security Council will evaluate whether to extend a state of emergency that was declared in Turkey after the July 2016 failed coup, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has said.

“Whether the state of emergency will be extended will be evaluated in the National Security Council, and a decision will be made accordingly,” Yıldırım said on March 9, responding to a question in a meeting with representatives of foreign media in Ankara, daily Hürriyet said on its website.

Turkey declared a three-month state of emergency on July 20, 2016, five days after the coup attempt of July 15, 2016. Authorities have already extended the state of emergency twice.
