Museum Talks at Istanbul Modern

Sam Thorne, the artistic director of Tate St. Ives, an art gallery in Cornwall, England, will be this week’s Museum Talks guest on April 7.

Entitled “Lure of the Local: Residencies, Art Schools, Museums,” the discussion will mainly focus on “what museums and larger arts institutions can learn from the recent flourishing of artist-led education projects.” Thorne will also talk about alternative art school projects.      

On April 14, the museum will host Institute of International Visual Arts (Iniva) Director Tessa Jackson, who will make a speech titled “Cultural Diversity and Its Representation within Visual Arts.” 

Jackson will discuss the challenges and importance of museums and galleries exploring internationalism and alternative perspectives through exhibitions and collections.      

The Museum Talks program, started in 2012, focuses on “establishing a new conversation platform between leading international museum professionals and audiences in Turkey.” 

All events are free of charge and will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Turkish.
