‘Motherland’ wins big at Ankara Film Fest

Director Senem Tüzen’s “Anayurdu” (Motherland) has won the Best Film Award at the 27th Ankara International Film Festival.  

This year the festival presented 213 films from 45 countries. At a closing ceremony held on the Akün Stage on May 8, the awards for the winners in the short, documentary and national feature film categories were presented by various artists, academics, journalists and representatives of the festival sponsors. 

Tüzün’s film won the award in the National Feature Film category. 

Ahu Öztürk’s debut feature “Toz Bezi” (Dust Cloth) won the Mahmut Tali Öngören Special Award at the festival, while Tüzün won the Best Director Award, Asiye Dinçsoy won the Best Actress Award and Nadir Sarıbacak won the Best Actor Award. 

Thy short film “Salı” (Tuesday), which was selected as the best short film, was presented 5,000 Turkish Liras at the festival. The winner of the best documentary category, “Kayıp Vatan” (Lost Homeland), was given 10,000 liras.  

The closing ceremony ended with a concert by Su İdil and her orchestra.
