Minister’s Libya visit to reboost economic ties

Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan will visit Libya today with a large mission of represantatives from exporter and conductor companies.The trade and investment delegation’s visit, headed by Çağlayan, marks the most comprehensive visit yet after the Libyan civil war.Libya State and Parliament President Muhammed Yusuf El Magarif and Prime Minister Ali Zeydan will meet the minister during his visit. Çağlayan will also have separate bilateral meetings with sevarl economy affairs-related minister and he will attend the Turkey-Libya Business Forum.
The most important issues to be discussed during the trip will be the Turkish contractors’ return to their unfinished projects in Libya after the civil war and the debts that Turkish businessmen couldn’t receive during the civil war period. Partnership agreements to establish a free-trade zone, to prevent double taxation and set a joint social security are also some of the topics on the agenda. The date of Turkey- Libya Joint Economic Mission meeting is anticipated to be set during the visit.
The trade volume between the two countries returns to its pre-civil war levels from 2012 on.
