Military delivers large plot for hospital to ministry

Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu and Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz visited the site of Istanbul’s planned city hospital on land that was previously owned by the Turkish Armed Forces.

Müezzinoğlu praised the site and the size of the project, saying it would last for half a century and not just a decade or two.

“We are now in ownership of a site for a project that would become a brand for the region, the city and the country,” Müezzinoğlu said.

“The work on the project will soon begin.” Müezzinoğlu also thanked the Chief of General Staff and Head of Land Forces for allowing the 3.5-million-square-meter area to be used for public service.

“It’s a wonderful part of Istanbul,” he added. “It’s a site on which we can build a variety of projects.” The armed units that were originally placed at the site will be moved to Çorlu, where locations are being readied for the forces to arrive, Yılmaz said during the visit.

“We gave these areas to the Health Ministry,” Yılmaz told reporters. “Once the units in Çorlu are prepared, we will move out of here and turn the site over to the ministry.”
