MHP will present same firm stance in referendum: Bahçeli
ANKARA
“During the referendum process, the MHP will demonstrate the same moral stance and stick to the firm decisions that it made with mature and responsible attitude in parliament,” Bahçeli said in a written statement on Jan. 22.
He condemned other opposition parties that criticized the MHP of portraying an inconsistent stance on the constitutional amendment package, which seeks to submit more powers to the president.
The opposition had insinuated Bahçeli’s earlier staunch disapproval of the presidential system and accused him of negotiating with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
“It will soon be understood in all its aspects that those who accused our party of inconsistency, those who claim that what we said yesterday contradicts with what we say today, are wrong and that they are at fault,” he said.
“The MHP has fulfilled a historic mission by undertaking the responsibility of ending the de facto dilemma, which has been deepening the current crisis in the system. Despite all the devastating propaganda and attacks, MHP lawmakers paved the way for Turkey by voting efficiently in parliament. The final say belongs to the Turkish nation, the sole owner of the sovereignty,” he added.
