Residents of the French city of Grenoble will stage a commemoration march tomorrow following the brutal slaying of two 21-year-olds on Sept. 28 in the city’s suburb of Echirolles, according to daily La Libération.

The two people, identified only by their first names of Kevin and Sofiane, were stabbed several times by a group of 15 people in a park in the eastern French city.

Kevin and Sofiane were in a park on the evening of Sept. 28 when they were allegedly set upon by a group of adolescents wielding knives, hammers and baseball bats, prosecutor Jean-Louis Lopez said, adding that the altercation was not the result of an argument over narcotics or a turf war.

The confrontation originally began with an argument between a brother of one of the victims and his friend after school that escalated into a fight involving a number of young people. Later, the group of 15 came to the park and allegedly killed Kevin and Sofiane.

French Interior Minister Manuel Valls issued a statement expressing his condolences over the victims’ deaths, demanding that officials in the region take “all necessary means to conduct an investigation under the authority of the prosecutor so that the perpetrators of these barbaric acts are promptly arrested.”

He also said the police presence on the ground would be reinforced in the coming days.
