Turkey’s Customs and Trade Minister Hayati Yazıcı criticized countries that had lent support to uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya for not showing such a sensitivity in the case of Syria.

Those who had risen up for Libya are hurting the conscience of humanity for remaining silent and reactionless against the massacres in Syria,” he said during his speech at the Istanbul Business Forum.
“The global and regional welfare and sustainability is closely related with peace in each country,” he said, adding that Turkey is located at a point where important trade and energy lines meet in between the Middle East, Balkans and Caucasus, where it is also facing many problems.

Learning from the crisis

Global economic crisis has brought the poverty apparent more than ever, Yazıcı said. “The crisis reminded us hunger and poverty,” he said. Social welfare was the solution and the crisis would end if it is provided for all, he said.
