Kasımpaşa agreed terms with former Ireland legend Roy Keane for the club’s vacant coaching job today.Former Manchester United icon Keane arrived in Istanbul late Oct. 1 to meet with the Spor Toto Super League club.
He will reportedly get 1.75 million Euros per year from Kasımpaşa. The Istanbul club has been seeking a new manager after parting ways with Metin Diyadin, who led the club to the Turkish top-flight last season. The club’s chairman, Zafer Yıldırım, last week told Turkish sports website Sporx that the club had two offers turned down by Brazil’s Zico and Germany’s Christoph Daum.
Kasımpaşa has made a flying start to the league and is sitting second in the Super League standings with four wins in six matches. With 12 points, the team sits just one point behind defending champion Galatasaray.
The club got its most eye-catching result on Sept. 29, beating title hopeful Fenerbahçe 2-0 with caretaker coach Fuat Kılıç at the helm.
New manager Keane comes to Kasımpaşa 18 months after being sacked as manager of Ipswich Town.
The 41-year-old’s first coaching spell was at Sunderland, where he won promotion to the English Premier League in 2008.
