Man wounded in coup attempt dies after 18 days
ANKARA
Oğuzhan Yaşar, 23, was heavily wounded in the head by pieces of shrapnel during a fighter jet attack near the Presidential Palace on the night of July 15.
Yaşar will be laid to rest on Aug. 5 in his hometown of the eastern province of Erzurum. The death of Yaşar brought the death toll in the coup attempt to 240.
Meanwhile, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also paid a condolence visit to Yaşar’s family at the hospital on Aug. 4.
In addition, Labor and Social Security Minister Süleyman Soylu, Health Minister Recep Akdağ, Justice and Development Party (AKP) Secretary-General Abdulhamit Gül and deputy chair Öznur Çalık also accompanied the president during his visit.
On the night of the coup attempt, Yaşar and some friends went to the Presidential Palace to defend it from the coup plotters.
He was working as a salesperson and living in Ankara during the summer with his family.
